PLANNING & ZONING

The Planning and Zoning Committee regularly meets with developers and City officials to monitor new construction projects proposed for the neighborhood. We work with the Aesthetics, Utilities and Traffic committees to ensure that new development in Victoria Park is compatible with the existing neighborhood, mitigate any negative consequences of new development and encourage developers to contribute resources to impliment Victoria Park's Master Plan.

In addition to monitoring individual projects, we are pursing a few long-term planning initiatives:

updating and strengthening the City of Fort Lauderdale's Tree Code
pursuing a special zoning overlay district to address redevelopment problems unique to Victoria Park redevelopment, such as density, setback requirements, improved landscape and canopy preservation, etc.
conducting a survey to rezone a portion of central Victoria Park to maintain the single-family nature of the neighborhood's central core
amend the City's "sidewalk code" to create pedistrian friendly streets
expand the City's rules of "construction mitigation rules" to encompass smaller townhome projects as well as large redevelopments
