Red Cross Warns of Possible Misrepresentation
Plantation, Fl (November 17, 2006) — The American Red Cross, Broward County Chapter received a report from a concerned citizen that had encountered a person going door to door selling cleaning supplies and claiming the profits will go to support the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross has not authorized any such program, and anyone selling anything door to door in the name of the Red Cross is more than likely fraudulent. The American Red Cross does not raise funds by selling anything door to door.
The American Red Cross urges anyone who encounters persons soliciting donations for, or selling products on behalf of the Red Cross to ask that person for his or her official American Red Cross identification card, which should be prominently displayed on a lanyard around all American Red Cross representatives necks.
The American Red Cross holds stewardship of donated monies among its top priorities, and strongly condemns the improper use of its name and image for fraudulent purposes.
You can help the Broward County Red Cross by making a financial contribution to the Broward County Chapter, American Red Cross located at 6710 West Sunrise Blvd., Plantation, FL 33313, or call (954) 797-3800.
